![]() The aim of the research has been to investigate in depth this phenomenon in order to highlight its causes, considering in particular case studies from the repertory of instrumental music of Eighteenth century Veneto, analysed both from the historical-musicological and conceptual standpoint. This thesis takes into consideration conflicting attributions, an issue occurring when a composition is ascribed to different authors in different sources. This paper, published in Studi Musicali Nuova serie, VI, 2015, n.1: 97-130) follows up research on the Concerto Grosso publication of these works in London, 1740, published by the author and Michael Talbot, in Eighteenth-Century Music, XII, 2015: 9-32, "'Choice Things of Value"). It remains to explore these works according to the composer's sound concept. The idea of string quartets with lute or harp continuo is far removed from the concerto grosso form in which these works have been known and recorded so far. ![]() The most interesting, although incomplete source, is the one held in BnF, in which the title pages read ‘Al tavolino senza cimbalo’, with the surviving bass parts named ‘Liuto, violoncello ò arpa’. ![]() The paper addresses questions raised in the title pages of the two sources most clearly connected with the composer, which indicate a very different sound concept from the concerto grosso. Published in London 15 years after the composer’s death, their connection with Scarlatti has been justifiably questioned.
